Telephone Area Code ChangesAs you may have heard, the telephone area codes for Numerous locations surrounding St. Louis will be changing in the near future. Permissive dialing period for the new 636 area code is scheduled to begin on May 22, 1999. The Mandatory dialing requirement is scheduled for February 26, 2000. This list is provided as a convienence, not as an authority. Please check with your communications provider before making any changes. During the permissive dialing period, a customer can begin using the new area code. In addition, calls placed to the new area code using the old 314 area code will still be completed during the permissive dialing period. When mandatory dialing begins, the caller must use the new area code for the call to be completed. A technical committee, comprised of the PSC staff, the Office of the Public Counsel and telecommunications industry representatives, was formed in 1995 to review area code issues in Missouri. This committee recommended the permissive and mandatory dialing dates for Commission review. The technical committee will also submit a proposed education plan on the new 636 area code for Commission review on or before February 26, 1999. Exchanges in 314 Area Code Coming soon... |
